selects Mr. Jack Ezzell, Jr., as the 1998 recipient of their "Delta Beta Lambda Community Service Award."

Delta Beta Lambda Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Inc., is proud to present Mr. Jack L. Ezzell, Jr., President and Chief Executive Officer of Zel Technologies, LLC, Hampton, as the 1998 recipient of our "Delta Beta Lambda Community Service Award." A resident of Hampton since 1985, Mr. Ezzell is being recognized for his outstanding dedication and unrelenting commitment to community service.

In 1995 Mr. Ezzell made a personal commitment to make information technology available to the youth and senior citizens of Hampton Roads by establishing KidTech, a non-profit corporation, that has provided computer exposure to at least 600 children in grades K-5 and 120 senior citizens. The effort has been funded entirely by Mr. Ezzell’s company and from his own private earnings. Participants pay no fees and are given instruction on various types of software programs, the Internet, and in the basics of computer technology. The program has been praised enthusiastically by parents, children, senior citizens, and educators. Such recognition earned Mr. Ezzell the distinction of being named the Daily Press Citizen of the Year for 1998.

Jack Ezzell’s contributions to the community are not limited to KidTech. He is strongly committed to the ideal that businesses should have a collaborative and supportive role with schools in the education and development of the workforce. At ZelTech he has established a corporate summer internship program that provides high school and college students with skills and leadership training that gives them experience and responsibility beyond the classroom environment. ZelTech also participates in the Summer High School Apprenticeship and Research Programs (SHARP) in cooperation with Hampton University and NASA.

Mr. Ezzell’s active involvement in the community extends to other areas as well. He is on the Executive Committee and a Member of the Board of Directors of the Hampton Roads Partnership; a Neighborhood Commissioner on the Hampton Neighborhood Commission; a Board Member of the Peninsula Advanced Technology Center; a Board Member of Achievable Dreams and a newly-elected Board Member of the Peninsula Chamber of Commerce.

Jack L. Ezzell, Jr. exemplifies the very best this community has to offer. Technological change is having a profound impact on our nation and this region and Mr. Ezzell, through his tireless efforts, is committed to making it available to all our citizens. Delta Beta Lambda is privileged to select Jack L. Ezzell, Jr. for the 1998 Delta Beta Lambda Community Service Award.
